Boozman Named ‘Hero of Main Street’ by National Retail Federation

Award Recognizes Senator’s Support for Policies that Uplift Retail Sector, Spur Economic Growth

Jul 25 2024

WASHINGTON – The National Retail Federation has named U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) a 2024 “Hero of Main Street” for his work to advance public policy that supports a vibrant and healthy retail sector.

“Retail is a key part of our economy and it is important to create an environment where it can thrive so consumers benefit while jobs are created and maintained in local communities. I’m honored to be recognized for my work to bolster this critical industry and will continue to back the commonsense, pro-growth policies that boost businesses and support employment,” Boozman said.

Retail is the nation's largest private-sector employer, driving the U.S. economy and creating jobs in communities throughout the country. Retail establishments are responsible for employing over 200,000 Arkansans and contributing more than $17.4 billion in economic activity.

“The retail industry directly impacts every congressional district in the United States, providing goods, services and American jobs,” NRF Executive Vice President of Government Relations David French said. “NRF is honored to recognize Sen. John Boozman as a ‘Hero of Main Street’ for his continued support of the retail industry through legislative action and leadership.”

NRF honored 265 members of the House and Senate as “Heroes of Main Street” during the 2024 Retail Advocates Summit, the retail industry’s premier advocacy event in Washington, DC.

The “Hero of Main Street” award was created by NRF in 2013 to recognize a bipartisan group of lawmakers for their support of the retail industry’s public policy priorities. Award eligibility is based on key votes, bill sponsorship and advocacy to advance the industry’s priorities.

Retail is the nation’s largest private-sector employer, contributing $5.3 trillion to annual GDP and supporting more than one in four U.S. jobs — 55 million working Americans. For over a century, NRF has been a voice for every retailer and every retail job, educating, inspiring and communicating the powerful impact retail has on local communities and global economies.
