WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) applauds DeShaun Bennett, the Boys & Girls Club Southwest Youth of the Year, for his perseverance and determination to overcome hardships in his life.

Bennett, a 2011 graduate of North Little Rock High School, visited with Boozman during the Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Youth of the Year recognition program where he is competing for the National Youth of the Year title.

“As a former participant, I understand how the Boys & Girls Club shapes young lives. DeShaun is a shining example of how important this organization is for youth without appropriate role models at home. I have great respect for DeShaun and all he has achieved in the face of adversity,” Boozman said.

“The Boys & Girls Club changed my life for the better,” Bennett told the Senator. “It means a lot being a voice to kids that aren’t heard. This shows that no matter where you come from, nothing can stop you if you are determined to accomplish something great.”

Bennett continues his work with the Boys & Girls Club in Atlanta where he is a freshman at Morehouse College. He volunteers his time helping students enroll in college and fill out scholarship applications.

Boozman was honored to introduce Bennett at a Congressional breakfast in honor of the five regional winners this morning.
