WASHINGTON- U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and John Boozman, along with Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-2) today announced that fire departments in Jacksonville, Norfork, and Sherwood will receive funding from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program to support firefighter safety.

“Time and time again, we are reminded of the critical role our firefighters and first responders play in keeping our families safe,” Pryor said. “This grant will provide our local fire departments with the resources they need to protect our firefighters while they’re on the job.”

“These grants will help protect firefighters in Jacksonville, Norfork and Sherwood while they protect and serve their communities. The funds will ensure that these firefighters have the critical tools and equipment they need to save lives in extremely dangerous conditions,” Boozman said.

“It is essential that our firefighters are properly equipped as they protect the health and safety of Arkansans. This grant will help ensure that our firefighters are better prepared to respond when our communities are threatened,” said Griffin.

The grants awarded are as follows:

•   Jacksonville: North Pulaski Protection District 15 will receive $23,735 for 12 complete sets of turnout gear.

•   Norfork: Lone Rock Volunteer Fire Department will receive $29,171 for 17 complete sets of turnout gear.

•   Sherwood: Sherwood Fire Department will receive $49,500 for a compressor fill station.
