In an increasingly dangerous world, American leadership is frequently being questioned and tested. The United States’ influence, as well as our resolve, is under pressure from volatility or outright conflict in many regions around the globe.

Russia’s war against Ukraine continues to cost lives and prolong suffering. China further exerts its will and ambitions brazenly at the expense of its neighbors. Iran refuses to abandon the pursuit of a nuclear weapon or support for terrorist proxies. Multiple African nations grapple with civil war and rogue elements. The list is long and expanding.

This is a recipe for further chaos and instability that we must counteract.

President Trump is working to restore deterrence and American dominance that ultimately benefits the causes of international peace and prosperity, and he has chosen two Arkansans to serve in critical posts to advance that work – former Governor Mike Huckabee as Ambassador to Israel and investment banker Warren Stephens as Ambassador to the United Kingdom.

These are two excellent selections, and I am grateful to the president for making both.

Raised in Hope and a proud graduate of Ouachita Baptist, Mike Huckabee served in ministry and eventually as the president of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention, where his leadership and communications skills intersected with the cornerstone of his life and foreshadowed his calling into public service. As our state’s 44th Governor, he pursued pragmatic solutions with a tireless work ethic and innate ability to forge relationships across political divides.

After delivering transformational change to Arkansas during his tenure, he has continued to use his platform in support of commonsense policies and America’s future success. He has also championed Israel throughout his entire life and is intimately familiar with its people and leaders, visiting the Jewish State repeatedly over fifty years.

He believes the sacred bond between the U.S. and Israel transcends politics – both in terms of shared values and mutual security – and is prepared to navigate the complex landscape with conviction and strength. Given our longstanding relationship, I know Gov. Huckabee is the right person, at this moment and for this purpose, and I look forward to seeing all the great things he will do as the United States Ambassador to Israel.

Likewise, Warren Stephens is also a friend and fellow Arkansan who will bring his many talents, skills and relationships to bear as our Ambassador to the United Kingdom.

He has been a lifelong, truly tireless crusader for capitalism, championing its ability to expand opportunity and help others realize the American Dream. Warren has also rightfully earned a reputation as a thoughtful, respected leader in the U.S. and abroad.

His extensive experience and expertise in the private sector – which includes leading the financial firm started by his uncle and father to new heights – are tremendous assets that will compliment his dedication to enhancing the special relationship between America and the U.K. at a critical time. I am confident he will strengthen the foundation underlying our alliance and encouraged by his commitment to bolstering our vital collaboration and partnership.

I was honored to introduce Gov. Huckabee and Warren Stephens at their recent nomination hearings, and to express my steadfast support for both men to my colleagues.

They are well-qualified to represent our country in two strategic parts of the world with significant implications for our own national security and interests. I’m pleased that, having represented our state so well in their personal and professional lives, they will soon have the same opportunity on behalf of our nation.
